| Helene Johnson, Sculptor
A Colorado native, Helene graduated from the University of Colorado with a Master of Fine Arts degree. She relocated to Connecticut and studied with such notable sculptors as Elisabeth Gordon Chandler, a founder of the Lyme Academy of Fine Arts. In the 1990s Helene joined the Academy as an instructor, eventually leaving academia to pursue sculpting full-time. She works from life using terra cotta, clay and bronze. Helene masterfully captures the spirit of subjects that range from wildlife to portraits and narrative tableaux’s that detail scenes from daily life. Helene’s distinguished sculpting career has earned her numerous awards and honors. Much of her work is commissioned art, which she creates in her studio in Chester, CT.
