Paula Billups, Oil Painter

A gifted and award-winning painter, Paula graduated from the Lyme Academy of Fine Arts, Old Lyme, CT in 2005. She also devotes a portion of her time teaching art to young people.

For her figure paintings she works primarily from life and en plein air when creating landscape paintings. No matter what the subject matter, she has an unwavering commitment to revealing the essence of the subject in a visually exciting and meaningful way.

Paula’s oil paintings are influenced by such masters as Carot, Degas, Whistler, Velasquez, Pontormo, Rembrandt, Thiebaud and Morandi, among others.

“When composing a picture I may go through fifteen or twenty sketches to explore the different possibilities before settling on a solution. For long-term goals, I have two: the constant improvement of my skill and receptivity to whatever visual idiom arises, regardless of its place in accepted visual language,” she says.

Paula’s work has been widely exhibited and is in collections in New England, Florida and Texas. She is also a member of the Pen and Brush Club in New York. For more information, visit www.paulabillups.com.
